Boston Brown Bread

  • 1 1/2 c boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c raisins

Cook 4 minutes, add 2 teaspoons soda and cool; Cream:

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Add:

  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • Raisins

Mix well. Put in 3 (#2) cans or 2 (#2 1/2) cans. Fill half full. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees or until done.
